## Page Range

The essay occupies PDF pages 9–16 inclusive. These correspond to `[Original page 1]` through `[Original page 8]` in the transcription. PDF page 9 is the essay’s title page; PDF page 16 contains the conclusion and final sentence. No foreword or subsequent work has been included.

## Method

The PDF was opened with OpenCode’s built-in PDF reading tool, which supplied both rendered page images and text extracted from the PDF’s existing embedded OCR layer. No standalone OCR engine (such as Tesseract, ABBYY FineReader, or Adobe Acrobat OCR) was run during this transcription. The embedded text was used only as a non-authoritative finding and comparison aid.

The transcription itself was produced by OpenAI GPT-5.6 Sol through direct visual inspection of the rendered scan images in OpenCode. Each essay page was read visually, and the draft text was manually reconciled with the printed image rather than accepted from the embedded OCR. PDF page 12, whose embedded OCR contains extensive Cyrillic-like substitutions, was transcribed from the rendered scan image.

After the initial pass, all eight essay pages were compared visually with the transcription a second time. The comparison checked wording, names, technical terms, punctuation, quotation marks, apostrophes, italics, headings, numbered material, accents, footnotes, and page boundaries. Wrap-only hyphens were removed; genuine compound hyphens were retained. Where a printed page ends inside a word, the page marker is placed at the nearest word boundary so the rejoined word remains intact.

The completed text was also checked for common OCR artifacts, including `rn`/`m`, `l`/`I`, fused or duplicated words, malformed ligatures, Cyrillic substitutions, dropped punctuation, and incorrect hyphenation.

None. No reading remains unresolved.

## Preserved Apparent Errors

- Original page 4: `resumé` is printed with an acute accent only on the final `é`.
- Original page 5: `elementary parts, operation which will then allow it to be solved` is printed without an article before `operation`.
- Original page 6: `As a result it come out with superior methods` is printed with `come`, not `comes`.
- Original page 6: `pecularities` is printed without the second `i` of `peculiarities`.
- Original pages 6–7: `The possibilities of choice on the part of the turtles is limited` is printed with the singular verb `is`.
- Original page 7: `the machine would chose to govern` is printed with `chose`, not `choose`.

## Formatting Limitations

- The decorative red initial `H`, ornaments, rules, and closing illustration are not represented.
- Exact typefaces, small-cap styling, letterspacing, indentation, justification, and spatial page design cannot be reproduced faithfully in Markdown.
- The scan combines footnote markers 1 and 2 in one note (`1 & 2`). The Markdown preserves the two superscript markers and gives their shared note once near its original location.
- Arbitrary line endings are not retained. Page breaks that divide a word are marked at the nearest word boundary to avoid preserving a wrap-only split.
